Division: BU Microsystems & Photonics
Location: Erfurt

As a Development Engineer in the BU Microsystems & Photonics, you lead and support development projects across different project phases. In close collaboration with various X-FAB departments, you ensure successful execution in compliance with internal procedures and guidelines.
Your daily tasks include the planning, organization, and evaluation of experiments. You ensure that all necessary conditions are in place, coordinate execution in the cleanroom, and continuously monitor the progress of the related wafer. Systematic tracking and documentation of processes form a key foundation for your work.
A core aspect of your role is close collaboration with internal interfaces such as Production, Quality, Customer Support, and Engineering. Regular meetings are used to plan, prioritize, and track the progress of projects and activities.
In addition, you take on project management responsibilities, coordinate work packages, and plan timelines. The role requires strong communication skills—both internally and externally—as you align requirements, present results, and support technical discussions.

Your role:

  • Development of microsystems technologies at wafer level
  • Taking ownership of project management tasks based on X-FAB procedures and standards (e.g. scheduling, coordination, reporting)
  • Development of new process steps and test structures in collaboration with the project team
  • Structured evaluation of experimental results (including optical inspections and statistical data analysis)
  • Tracking and inspection of wafers in the cleanroom
  • Close collaboration with internal departments (e.g. Quality, Engineering, Customer Service, Process Characterization)
  • Active participation in regular meetings to align on projects, progress, and actions
  • Collaboration with external customers and partners

Your profile:

  • University degree (Master’s / PhD) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Semiconductor Technology, or a similar field; alternatively, relevant professional experience
  • Curiosity and openness to new ideas combined with strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and interest in project-based work
  • Excellent communication skills and enjoyment of working in a multicultural team environment
  • Basic German skills or willingness to learn
  • Very good English skills (written and spoken)
